Dispelling Some Myths Regarding Metal Roofs
Unfortunately, there are a few myths that have been circulating about metal roofs that have scared some prospective buyers away. The truth is that metal roofs are completely safe and do not cost significantly more than other styles of roof. That is not to say that you should definitely go with a metal roof, but you should ignore the following myths that you might have heard.
Although it might make sense on the surface, the idea that metal roofs are more likely to be struck by lightning is not true. There is no difference between metal and other types of roofs in regards to lightning, so you have nothing to worry about in that regard. In fact, a metal roof can help disperse the charge from the lightning, which can lessen the amount of damage that it does to your home. Since metal is not combustible, you do not have to worry about it catching on fire either.
Metal Roofs are Noisy?
If you have spent time in a cabin or barn with an old tin roof, you know that they can be very noisy when it rains. The modern metal roofs that your Garland roofing contractor will install, however, have plywood underneath, which limits this noise. In fact, you will not notice any difference between a metal roof and an asphalt roof in regards to noise because these roofs are so well insulated.
Contrary to popular belief, metal roofs are not susceptible to rust because they come with a coating protection that is made from aluminum or zinc. This coating is then bonded to the steel, which also allows you to paint the roofs a color of your choosing. These roofs are also very difficult to dent, so you do not have to worry about the winds and hail in Texas doing any damage to them. In fact, the majority of metal roofs are rated to withstand winds of up to 120 miles per hour, so it is highly unlikely that you will encounter a wind that is strong enough to damage it. You can also walk across a metal roof and it will not dent at all.
