Preparing Your Home for Your Window Replacement Contractor
Before you can have the windows around your home replaced, it is a good idea to speak with your contractor about what needs to be done to make the job easier. In most cases, you will be asked to remove curtains, move furniture, and generally make sure that the area around the windows is free of debris. In addition, your Allen window replacement company might have some specific requests that you should meet, as doing so will make the job run much more smoothly.
Deactivate Your Alarms
This is not a concern in some homes, but if you have an alarm system that is attached to your windows, make sure that you let your alarm company know about the replacement. Some alarm systems have sensors that will sound the alarm if a window is broken or removed. If this is the case in your home, you could end up with the police at your door while your contractor attempts to finish the job. Depending on the type of alarm system that you have, your security company might be able to deactivate these sensors remotely. The sensors will then have to be reinstalled in the new windows to keep your home safe.
Remember Your Window Coverings
If you have old windows in your home, there is a chance that you have placed some coverings over them to stop the draft. In other cases, you might have blinds, curtains or other coverings up for decorative purposes. All of these items should be taken down before your contractor arrives, however, as it makes the job much easier and protects them from damage. You should even take down the curtain rods and anything else that is attached to the window frame, since it is what you are replacing.
Your contractor will require access to both the inside and outside of the home, so make sure that your house is ready for them. Tarp any landscaping or furniture that you want to keep safe during this process, since debris and dirt could makes its way to these areas. Although your contractors will do everything possible to protect your property, you should be proactive and remove everything valuable from the work area, just in case the unforeseen occurs.
