Roofing Options You Should Consider
When you put a new roof on your home you should do more than just planning to put traditional asphalt shingles on it. You should at least consider other roofing options that can make your home even more attractive and some of them can enable your roof to last longer than standard roofing materials. You can contact Plano roofers to find out what options they have available.
This is the most common shingle found on homes in America. Did you know, however, that it comes in two different types? The lower cost asphalt shingle is about half the weight of the other one and it does not last as long. The more expensive asphalt shingle can last up to 30 years because it contains fiberglass. The cheaper shingle will often last about 20 years.
Clay and Stone Tiles
These roofing tiles can be obtained with different styles, and different materials. Each of them is heavy, however, so you will need to have stronger roof framing to support them safely. They are available in clay tiles, slate tiles, or concrete tiles.
When a new roof uses composite roofing materials, you can get the same look for your roof that you would get with a slate, clay or concrete roof. This is a new product on the market, so its durability and ability to retain its color is not fully known yet. It is likely to be long lasting and it is much lighter than the materials it looks like.
Another popular roofing material is wood shingles. These are usually made of cedar and are thicker than asphalt shingles. When using wood shingles, a steeper roof is required so that moisture can drain off of the shingles more easily, or there will be problems with rotting wood and mold building up. The shingles come in two forms, the thinner wood shingles or the thicker wood shakes.
When you want beauty and durability, you have several options with metal roofs. There is, of course, the standard metal roof with raised seams. This style is what many people think of when they think of a metal roof. Newer styles are available now, and you can get your metal roof in styles that look like asphalt, wood, or even ceramic tiles.
