The Process of Installing a New Roof

Your roof is an important part of your Allen home. If the roof you currently have is not able to do the job it was made to do then perhaps it is time to consider putting on a new roof. You want to be able to protect your home, the structure and your family that lives inside. The only way you’re going to be able to do this is by making sure that the necessary repairs are done on it and it is replaced when it needs to be.

Perhaps you’re ready to begin the new roof process. You’ve chosen your contractor. You’ve talked about the details and chose the materials that you’re going to be putting on your roof — now what is next?

You should know the process of what is going to be done on your roof. By understanding the steps involved, you’re able to get a better idea of how it is done.
Roofing Process for Shingled Roofs

1. Your new roof is going to have to be removed. This means taking off the shingles, flashing and any paper that was laid down under the shingles. Removing these old shingles has to be done to ensure that the new ones are being laid down and installed properly.

2. Once this is done, you will have a bare roof for the roofers to work with. They will then need to lay down the underlaying for the shingles to sit on. This provides an extra barrier that makes it harder for water to penetrate into the roof of the home. It usually has adhesive on one side so it is able to be laid in sheets.

3. Flashing is then laid down around any areas of the roof where shingles are not able to meet or cover. This could be at the edges, around steep parts of the roof or around chimneys and skylights. These are nailed in securely to stop water from getting into the tiny cracks.

4. The shingles are then added over the underlaying layer. This is done in rows. The shingles have to be on top of one another partially in order to work properly, so if you think the roofer is wasting shingles, they are probably not. This close installation protects the inside of your home from water and helps the water fall down to your gutters.
